Ruebi began his musical career as a drummer in various new wave bands in his hometown of Emmerich. In 1987, he joined the German post-punk band Pink Turns Blue as a keyboardist and bassist, touring internationally with them for about 20 years. After spending several years in London and an intense period with the band, he decided during the COVID-19 crisis to strike out on his own: His solo project blends electronic elements with indie and new wave influences from the ’80s.
In Ruebi’s mind—a true post-punk original—the music of The Cure, Siouxsie, Depeche Mode, Oasis, Nirvana, John Peel, Killing Joke, and Laibach is firmly anchored as a musical foundation. At the same time, he also draws inspiration from contemporary bands like NewDad, Fontaines D.C., Idles, and Amyl and the Sniffers.
The idea of releasing a vinyl LP on demand via SoundCloud eventually led to “Ausreisser”—a CD that compiles all of his singles to date. Since a single vinyl record would have cost around €50, Ruebi opted for an affordable alternative: the CD version for €10 plus shipping, so that his music could reach as many people as possible.

Ruebi begann seine musikalische Laufbahn als Schlagzeuger in verschiedenen New-Wave-Formationen seiner Heimatstadt Emmerich. 1987 schloss er sich der deutschen Post-Punk-Band Pink Turns Blue als Keyboarder und Bassist an, mit der er rund 20 Jahre international tourte. Nach einigen Jahren in London und einer intensiven Zeit mit der Band entschied er sich während der Corona-Krise, eigene Wege zu gehen: Sein Soloprojekt verbindet elektronische Elemente mit Indie- und New-Wave-Einflüssen der 80er.
In Ruebis Kopf – ein echter Original-Postpunk – ist die Musik von The Cure, Siouxsie, Depeche Mode, Oasis, Nirvana, John Peel, Killing Joke und Laibach wie ein musikalischer Grundwortschatz verankert. Gleichzeitig lässt er sich auch von aktuellen Bands wie NewDad, Fontaines D.C., Idles oder Amyl and the Sniffers inspirieren.

German artist Ruebi doesn’t rush the room; he takes his time and lets it come to him. This alone distinguishes him from the post-punk nostalgia merchants who are constantly chasing their own pasts. Years of working and touring in the music scene have shown him what endurance truly means—when it no longer seeks to impress. His solo projects distill this understanding to the core: economy, intention, and nerve. Ruebi’s path has already been crowded with motion. Early years behind drum kits in Germany’s new-wave circuit. A long stretch on the road with Pink Turns Blue, playing cities until they blurred into one another. Time spent in London, absorbing other angles, other tempos. When the pandemic forced a pause, it also cracked something open. He stepped away from the band and toward autonomy, choosing a slower pace and sharper focus.

Schon die ersten Töne entfalten eine strahlende Klarheit, die tief im modernen Indie-Pop verwurzelt ist, dabei aber deutlich aus einer langen musikalischen Geschichte schöpft. Schimmernde Gitarren treffen auf luftige Synthesizer-Flächen, alles getragen von einer organischen Produktion, die Raum lässt – zum Atmen, zum Fühlen, zum Eintauchen. Die Stärke von „Dazzling“ liegt in seiner eleganten Zurückhaltung. Nichts drängt sich auf, alles wirkt bewusst gesetzt. Die Melodie schwebt leicht über einem eingängigen, aber nie aufdringlichen Rhythmus, während sich eine optimistische Grundstimmung ausbreitet, die fast beiläufig den Alltag verzaubert. Genau hier zeigt sich Ruebis Gespür für Arrangements: minimalistisch, aber wirkungsvoll – sonnig, hypnotisch und überraschend süchtig machend.
